Drug Trial hits Winchester
An unemployed father of two children has pleaded guilty while accused of major drug dealing, a court heard on Monday.
Dennis Perkins, 35, is alleged to have been in possession with intent of supply of a large quantity of drugs as cocaine, heroin and crack. He was arrested in August 2007 at a London train station while he was carrying 8g of cocaine and 200mg of heroin on him.
The trial at Winchester Crown Court heard that the defendant wasn’t actually the one selling the drugs: “The drugs were given to me by a black man in North London and I transported them by train all the way to Aldershot, where I gave them to a man named Winston who was responsible for the selling of the drugs”, Mr Perkins claimed. When asked to identify the black man from North London, Mr Perkins refused stating that if he would do so: “Things might get terribly ugly”.
The Defendant fully admitted all the matters of the case and explained that he was only dealing with drugs because of his 3000£ of debts and his inability to take care of his two children, who he is raising on his own. He also explained how he was transporting the drugs in 10£ bags by train to Aldershot and how he received 100£ for each job.
The trial was adjourned until Thursday, when Mr Perkins will appear in court to be sentenced.
